The finals of the Ku De Ta/ Jose Cuervo Battle of the Bands was held last night at Ku De Ta in Tygervalley, Cape Town. The finalists were Jade, Chasing Friday, Autopilot, Red Light in June, and SkyeClad. I only arrived at the beginning of SkyeClad's set and so I don't have anything from Jade or Chasing Friday. For some reason this whole event managed to slip under my radar, thankfully Autopilot's newsletter drew me out to the event. Generally I think of a battle of the bands as being something that would feature bands that are just starting out, not that I am apposed to going to new bands gigs, it's just that I was very surpised by the bands who were taking part. It's great to see players like Jose Cuervo coming out to support SA music and sponsoring events like this, well done to them and to Ku De Ta for what seemed like an awesome event, I have no idea how many heats there were or which bands took part but I'll be sure not to miss out on the next one. It sounds like this is the begining of something really hot.

I don't often get out to the Northern Suburbs because the thought of a 90km round trip from Muizenberg seems like a major mission but it was well worth the effort to have my first visit to Ku De Ta. It has a very upmarket feel and was teaming with gorgeous girls, sorry girls but I didn't check out the talent for you, it didn't cross my mind. As you get off the N1 traveling towards Durbanville you'll see them on the right hand side just past Stones.

As I mentioned, I arrived at the beginning of SkyeClad's set, so they're up first. I hadn't seen them before so it was quite a jol, they're a hot band with lots of what I would think of as old school guitaring, the guitar solos were a little long for my particular taste but the audience seemed to be loving it. I haven't been able to get much info on them apart from a MySpace profile I can't read, www.myspace.com/skyecladband go and check it out, they have some really cool tracks up which are worth listening to, judging from the tracks I may have been too hasty with my long solos comment, it could well have been specially for the competition. Here's a few pics and a video clip.

Please note that the audio quality is really bad as my equipment is crude and doesn't do the band's sound any justice, if you want to hear what these bands sound like, listen to their tracks on MySpace or elsewhere, don't judge their sound by the video.

Autopilot were next to play. This is one seriously rocking band, I haven't seen them since Brigette joined them, she has definitely added something special to the band, absolutely gorgeous, oozing charm and all that with very raunchy vocals and a smile to melt a glacier. They took first place, I'm not sure what the prize was but it certainly seemed well deserved. You can visit them on Facebook or MySpace or www.autopilot.co.za.

The Band is members are Brigette - vocals, Shane - guitar/vocals, Sykes - guitar, Dutch - bass & Nixx - drums. they call themselves a Humpty Dumpty Alternative Rock band. If you haven't yet seen them, do yourself a favour and check them out. Here are some pics and a short video clip of them, enjoy.

Last up and I think very close to being the band favoured by the audience, were Red Light in June. These guys kick arse. Redlight in June are June-lead vocals, John-guitar, Mat-drums, Victor-bass & Jacques on lead guitar. They are another band, with a gorgeous female vocalist who has a powerful voice and loads of sex appeal which makes for a visual and audio journey of note. You can visit them on MySpace and Facebook., if you haven't had the pleasure of seeing them live yet, then you're in for a treat no matter what month of the year you see them in. Here are some photos and a video clip of them,
