This past Saturday saw the launch of Loud & Rude at the Assembly in Cape Town. What a night it was with an awesome lineup of bands. the Little Kings, 32 Battalion, 7th Son, Captain Stu, Halfprice, The Rudimentals and Hog Hoggidy Hog. The MC for the night was comedian Paul Snodgrass who did an excellent job of entertaining the audience between sets. I missed all but the last number played by the Little Kings which was a shame as they sounded like a really kick arse band. I have added as many links as I could find to the musicans and bands performing on the night, so check them out, go listen to some of their tracks, these are all awesome musicians.

32 Battalion were next up and their set was pumping with loads of really powerful grooves.

Next up were 7th Son who need no introduction in Cape Town.

Captain Stu were there as one would expect at a meeting of the Ska bands of Cape Town. Check them out

the audience who packed the Assembly out

We had the pleasure of the animals of Cape Town punk rock, none other than Halfprice who kicked arse as usual. Before they start their set these guys always look like a bunch of really nice guys who are about to sing some wholesome christian music and then you see what looks like John Macenroe climbing onto stage and it's not too long before all hell breaks loose and a huge and dangeropus mosh pit starts up, I quickly headed for cover, I've come very close to being mashed at some of their other gigs.

ok, so which one is the fake prick they're all pointing at?

Next up were the Rudimentals who are an institution in Cape Town, the audience couldn't get enough of them.

Michael Levy (AKA Doc Mike) on lead guitar

Duane Heydenreych (AKA Mighty D),
Teboes Maidza (AKA Mr. Boss) lead Vocals and Michael Levy

Simon White (AKA The Reverend) on Sax

Ross McDonald (AKA RossDaBone) on trombone - a real Ska slut, as you see, he's playing with a whole bunch of these bands, probably because he really can play that trombone

Jody Engelbrecht (AKA Jo D) on trumpet

Last up were the Hogs who really rocked the house in their usual fashion, I think they may well have been the favourate band for the night.

Ross McDonald (AKA RossDaBone) on trombone, Lee "Lips"Thomson on Trumpet

Lee Thomson is also another one of those musicians who is playing with a lot of different projects and also the man behind the Armchair Headsets which were held at the Armchair, if he's involved in something you can be sure it's hot, whether it's Ska, Jazz or anything else.
