Arno Carstens and Louise Carver for Valentines Day at the Durban Botanic Gardens
The OLD MUTUAL MUSIC AT THE LAKE SERIES presents ARNO CARSTENS and LOUISE CARVER at the Durban Botanic Gardens on the 14th of February. The Old Mutual Music at the Lake series kicks off its 2012 season on Valentine’s Day, 14 February with two top-selling artists set to perform together. SAMA award winners Louise Carver and Arno Carstens will set the romantic mood while fans spend the evening in the beautiful surroundings of the Botanic Gardens. Arno Carstens has been hailed as “The Godfather of South African Rock” for the role he has played in the South African rock music industry over the past two decades. He is also an internationally signed, platinum selling singer-songwriter. During his career as the lead singer of South Africa’s favourite rock band The Springbok Nude Girls, and subsequently as a solo artist, Arno has released nine studio albums and had 18 top 10 singles. He has won five South African Music Awards and shared the stage with legends of the music world. Arno has performed on the main stage at the Isle of Wight Festival, has appeared at Glastonbury, V Festival, T in the Park and Hard Rock Calling and has supported the likes of U2, The Rolling Stones, Paul Weller, The Police, Simple Minds and Meat Loaf on European tours. The equally talented and ravishingly beautiful Louise Carver is the perfect counterpart to Carstens for the Valentine’s Day concert at the Lake. Carver signed her first record deal with the independent label, Silver Tulip Music at 15. She released her debut single at 17 entitled, ‘It Don’t Matter.’ It became an instant hit and reached no.3 on the 5FM Top 40. Since then she has kept on churning out hits and winning critical acclaim along with commercial success. Carver is currently working on her fifth studio album and has once again changed musical direction. The new sound is a tension between live instrumentation and electronic grooves and will be released in the first quarter of 2012. Fans are in for a treat as these two formidable talents take to the stage at the Durban Botanic Gardens. Bandile Mngoma, says, “It is through initiatives of this nature that Old Mutual is able to promote environmentally-sustainable practices. The concert is an ideal opportunity for us to raise more awareness on the importance of sustaining national biodiversity. We are also excited that top artists like Arno and Louise are headlining the Music at the Lake concerts.” The Old Mutual Music at the Lake series presents live concerts every month throughout the year at the Durban Botanic Garden and all proceeds from the performances go towards an innovative people and plant development programme, the Garden Window Project, within the Durban Botanic Garden.
