The Standard Bank Joy of Jazz proudly celebrates its 10th anniversary this year with a truly international line-up of top artists from around the world while continuing to discover and explore the heritage and riches of home-grown talent.

Top female performers from around the world will grace the stages of the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz in the month in which South Africa celebrates its women.

Some of the world’s leading jazz musicians - appearing at this year’s Standard Bank Joy of Jazz which takes place in Newtown from August 27 to 29 - will run free workshops teaching youngsters and musicians the intricacies of the craft.

Leading South African songstresses Judith Sephuma and Unathi Nkayi are joining the already impressive line-up at this year’s Standard Bank Joy of Jazz.
Sephuma – who is regarded as one of the country’s leading jazz and Afro-pop singers and is the recipient of three South African Music Awards (SAMAs) – will perform on the Dinaledi Stage on Friday, August 28. She shares the stage with Spain’s Summra; the Lao Tizer Band featuring violinist Karen Briggs and guitarist Chieli Minucci and Main Ingredient from the US which includes vocalist Cuba Gooding.

In celebration of Women’s Month and the legacy of women journalists in South Africa’s popular media, Standard Bank Joy of Jazz will be offering a five-day practical workshop for women arts writers as part of the event’s educational programme.

The Standard Bank Joy of Jazz’s opening night is a not-to-be-missed jazz-travaganza with audiences treated to both five-star entertainment and a five-course dinner. It will be a celebration of a decade of musical excellence as Standard Bank Joy of Jazz proudly celebrates its 10th anniversary.

As part of its 10th anniversary celebrations the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz (SBJoJ) – which starts today in Newtown and runs until Saturday - is proud to announce the introduction of an American cultural exchange programme which will see the sharing of musical talent between South Africa and the US.
